PC-BSD, an excellent alternative.

by on Jul.10, 2008, under O.S.S.

I’ve been using PC-BSD on one of my testing laptops for a couple of weeks and so far I really have found the experience to be spot on with my expectations. I used to use FreeBSD but only occasionally. I was far too busy with all things Linux. My one major dislike is the use of KDE innstead of GNOME. I used to be a KDE fan since back in the 1.0 days. I have since switched over to GNOME almost exclusively. I do like XFCE as well for slower hardware. I am currently downloading the GNOME 2.22.2 PBI file which is 413 megabytes. So I will give GNOME a shot on PC-BSD and post back what I think. I don’t have WPA2 working as of yet and whenever I close the laptop the display flakes out to like 640×480. However, it is easily fixed with a CTRL+ALT+Backspace to reset the X-Server. Those are about my only complaints thus far. Check it out at http://www.pcbsd.org
