A-Data’s 128GB Solid State Drive Sees the Light of Day.

by Ken on Jan.27, 2007, under Tech

I found this on a friends site: http://storm.homelinux.org I just had to post it because this makes me very excited. No more hard drive failures to contend with.

A-Data 128 GB SSD.

A-Data was showing off this 128GB 2.5-inch solid-state drive in the back rooms of CES, and finally a picture of the largest-capacity SSD in the world has surfaced. Not much is known about it except that it’s a SATA II drive and might be shipping about six months from now.

The biggest unanswered question: How much will it cost? Anybody have a guess? Take a look at another pic of the other side of this drive:

The back of A-Data 128 GB SSD.

A-Data’s not the only one building drives like this, we can just smell it. It won’t be long before all disks will be made this way, and not a moment too soon!

Exclusive: Van Halen Reuniting With Roth For Tour!!!

by Ken on Jan.25, 2007, under Music

The original Van Halen lineup.

All I can say is too bad it won’t include Michael Anthony. That’s the sad thing about this whole circus act.

Ray Waddell, Nashville

Sources tell Billboard.com a contract could be signed as soon as today for Live Nation to produce a 40-date amphitheatre tour by Van Halen this summer, with original frontman David Lee Roth back in the fold for the first time in more than 20 years.

As previously reported, guitarist Eddie Van Halen’s 15-year-old son Wolfgang has stepped in for original bassist Michael Anthony in the new incarnation of the group, which also features drummer Alex Van Halen.

Van Halen last toured in 2004 with vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. Hagar refused to collaborate further with Eddie and Alex Van Halen after the tour’s completion (“I don’t get along with Eddie anymore, and that’s all there is to it,” he told Billboard.com in August 2005), although he has consistently played live with Anthony in recent years. The warring factions may wind up meeting in public in March when Van Halen is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“I see it absolutely as an inevitability,” Roth told Billboard.com last May of a potential reunion with his ex-bandmates. “To me, it’s not rocket surgery. It’s very simple to put together. And as far as hurt feelings and water under the dam, like what’s-her-name says to what’s-her-name at the end of the movie ‘Chicago’ — ‘So what? It’s showbiz!’ So I definitely see it happening.”

Hagar recently told Billboard.com he was concerned Eddie Van Halen was asking too much of his son to have him join the band and promptly perform in front of thousands of people every night.

“That’s a lot of pressure for Wolfie. Just ’cause he’s Eddie’s son doesn’t mean he can go out and play in arenas and perform and entertain an audience for two hours,” he said. “I would love to see Eddie and Alex get behind Wolfie, with a kid of his age singing, and produce the record for him and help him launch a career. I’d rather see it go that way than come out and say ‘Wolfie’s the bass player in Van Halen and maybe singing, too.’ Van Halen’s got way too much history to have that put on him.”

by Ken on Jan.24, 2007, under Linux

http://freeos.com/guides/lsst/

Okay this is super geeky and I debated whether or not to post it at all. However, I think it’s very useful for anyone wanting to get into Linux.

This tutorial is designed for beginners who wish to learn the basics of shell scripting/programming plus introduction to power tools such as awk, sed, etc. It is not help or manual for the shell.

Harley-Davidson’s Softail Custom awarded Best New Nostalgic Bike of 2007.

I have seen this bike and a friend has one. It truly is a winner IMHO. If I were buying this year it would probably be this bike.

2007 Harley Davidson FXSTC

US Rider News announces that its Editors have selected the Harley-Davidson ‘Softail Custom’ as the “Best New Nostalgic Bike of 2007.”

Editor Scott Cochran said that this bike hearkens back to a time when “bikers” were hard core and their rides were hard-tailed. “If there ever was a time in history when motorcyclists were stereotyped by the mainstream media, it was during early years of the Hardtail Customs. A saddlebag full of T&A biker movies made society see the motorcycle rider as something akin to a modern day barbarian. That’s what makes this motorcycle worthy of our 2007 Best Nostalgic Bike because as you ride it, you’ll have lots of fun imagining that you’re the star in such great old movies as: Bikers, Blondes and Blood, Motorcycle Cheerleading Mamas or that classic – Bikers From Hell.”

Cochran added that “The new 2007 Softail Custom recalls the looks of those B-movie bikes of the sixties. Ape hanger handlebars, heavily stepped king-and-queen seats, padded sissy bars and wide forks with 21-inch front wheels all speak volumes to the ‘Easy Rider’ set. But this outlaw comes in armed with Harley’s most modern and powerful standard engine to date – the Twin Cam 96 plus the bona fide easy rider – Harley’s ‘Softail’ chassis.”

Other models receiving nominations for the “Best New Nostalgic Bike of 2007” included: BMW’s R1200-R and Ducati’s Monster S4R

Mark Cuban: BitTorrent is Doomed

by Ken on Jan.24, 2007, under Tech

http://torrentfreak.com/mark-cuban-bittorrent-is-doomed/
I read this and at first thought he’s insane, BitTorrent is open source software and used in massive quantities across the Internet. How can it possibly be doomed? He raises some excellent points but personally I don’t feel it will ever die completely. The way it’s used may change but I doubt it will die completely.

In a interview iptv man Mark Cuban says P2P (bittorrent) is doomed.
