You hit the nail on the head. It's more about the ride than the destination. There are times that I plan out a route to reach my destination, but I invariably get distracted by something I see. Usually I do end up where I had planned, but usually after traveling many more miles than mapquest told me.
My best rides have been planned like this: Ride 2 hours north and see what happens.</description>
