While I'm not in favor of anything that infringes on my rights, I realize that we live in a unique period in American history.
Any wars we've fought in the past have been against a known enemy acting as an agent of a specific country or group of countries. Currently the United States faces an enemy that has no face, no country and no conscience.
If you look at the Patriot Act and other legislation passed to protect us from terrorism, you will see that you only need worry about your rights being violated if you are in contact with terrorist orginizations. Democrats would have you believe that the Justice Department is wiretapping and recording phone conversations of Joe American. Not so. What is being monitored is communication with known or suspected terrorists. Joe American has no reason to be chatting on the phone with Osama bin Laden. If he IS talking with terrorists, we damned better know what he's up to.
Do I like that someone at DOJ is listening to private phonecalls in the U.S.? Hell no, on general principals. Do I like the fact that this surveillance helped US and Brittish agents break up a plot to take down 10 aircraft recently? Damned skippy!
